NCH Step Out for Children Walk

Once again we were so lucky with the weather for this walk which took place on Saturday, June 14th, at Wicksteed Park.  We are very grateful to those who took part.  With the exception of four people from Uppingham and my grandchildren, all those who took part were from Rockingham Road Methodist Church.
Possibly it is time to re-think this event.  We may have to look at a change of venue or we may give it a rest for a year or two.  We are very conscious of the fact that there have been quite a few charity walks over the past few months so perhaps we are one too many.
However, thanks to those who walked and to those who generously sponsored the walkers.  We are likely to have raised over £400 which is a splendid amount.

Nigel Ogden Organ Recital at Central Methodist Church on Saturday, 10th May, 2008

We have recently enjoyed Nigel's eighth visit to Kettering and he has once again given us an evening to remember!  His programme was varied from songs from the shows to classical and covered tastes of all the audience - the way he made the instrument dance and sing showed what can be done with our church organ in the hands of such a professional musician.
Thanks go to all of you who came to hear him and to all the workers who made the evening possible, especially to Dave Clarke who spent most of the afternoon putting up the sound equipment.  We will let you know in the next Newsletter the amount that has been donated to Cransley Hospice.

Circuit Appeal, March 2008

A BIG THANK YOU to all who contributed to the Circuit Appeal, March 2008.  Wendy and Michael Curtis have taken a full car load of sewing machines, fabrics, threads, tools etc. to Workaid in Amersham in Buckinghamshire.
This will all go in due course to worthy projects - probably in Africa.

Alexander Ardakov Piano Recital at Rothwell Methodist Church on Saturday, 9th February, 2008.

We were treated to a wonderful evening of classical music when Alexander came to play a varied programme, including Glinka, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Rachmaninov, and Liszt.
We look forward to hearing him again sometime in the spring of 2009 - the date is yet to be arranged.
If you would like to read a little of Alexander's biography, please click here.

The Yamaha piano for the recital was kindly lent by Josef's Piano Shop in Rothwell.  The photograph below is of Alexander Ardakove on the right, with John Shaw of Josef's Pianos.

Please note that Alexander has kindly agreed to come and play again at Rothwell next year on Saturday, 28th February, 2008.  More details later.
